Independence at Home

Independence at Home (IAH) is a free community-based service that has helped thousands of people remain healthy, happy and in their own homes.

District Attorneys Office

District Attorneys Office

  • Some supportive services for victims of crime such as transportation to court, payment of medical bills, psychological counselling and restitution.
  • Community outreach and education on Elder Abuse.
  • Law Enforcement training on lack of capacity (Alzheimer’s and Dementia) issues.

The District Attorney’s Office prosecutes felony crimes throughout Los Angeles County, as well as misdemeanor crimes in unincorporated areas and in 78 of the 88 County Cities.

Los Angeles County Fire Department

  • Comprehensive Electronic Patient Care Reporting system that tracks every patient contact.
  • Patients tracked by Fire Department database: Name, Age, Gender, Incident Location, Hospital Destination and other factors. Database may be accessed for investigative purposes to identify last known location of missing person.
  • Other County Agencies can access our data about missing persons as allowed by department regulation and laws.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is responsible for protecting the lives and property of 4 million residents living in 1.25 million housing units in 59 cities and all unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. 

L.A. Found

L.A. Found

L.A. Found is a groundbreaking countywide initiative to help locate individuals with dementia or autism who wander. The L.A. Found initiative establishes a voluntary system of trackable bracelets for at-risk individuals.

Provides services that improve the lives of local families affected by Alzheimer’s/Dementia by increasing awareness, delivering effective programs/services, providing compassionate support, and advocating for quality care and a cure.

  • In-Home Assistance for older adults to maintain independent living.
  • Care Management to assess and develop a plan to meet the social and health needs of older adults.
  • Legal Assistance for older adults with legal issues.

Provides community based services to seniors and their caregivers to ensure the highest quality of life as possible and remain in the community.

Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH)

  • Mental health services to children, adolescents and adults
  • Mental health and supportive services for clients of all ages who live with serious mental illness.
  • Screening and assessment, case management services, individual and family treatment and crisis intervention services.

The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health programs include child and adult outpatient clinics and a myriad of specialized programs which include outreach and engagement, assessment, psychoeducation, crisis intervention, individual and/or group psychotherapy, peer support, medication evaluation and management, individual and/or group rehabilitation and case management.

Provides conservatorship services to persons that are unable to properly care for themselves or who are unable to manage their finances.

Department of Public Health (DPH)

  • Public Health Nurses make home visits to families.
  • Provide testing for communicable diseases and provides vaccinations.
  • Provide free or low cost services for those individuals with no insurance.

Protects health, prevents disease and injury, and promotes health and well-being for everyone in the County.

Department of Public Social Services (DPSS)

  • In-Home Supportive Services  helps pay for services provided to low-income elderly, blind or disabled individuals, including children, so that they can remain safely in their own home.
  • CalFresh  improves the nutrition of people in low-income households  by increasing their food-buying power, so they can purchase the amount of food their household needs.
  • Health programs to cover the needs of everyone regardless of age, race, or immigration status.

Provides a range of public services that improve the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.

Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS)

Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS)

  • Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP), which provides support to unpaid caregivers caring for elderly relatives, or to older caregivers of younger family members. The purpose of the program is to help minimize the negative emotional, physical, and financial consequences of unpaid family caregiving.
  • New Freedom program provides transportation and mobility management services, sensitive to the needs of seniors and adults with disabilities, to enhance quality of life, maintain independence, and improve their overall health and well-being.
  • Supportive Services Program which promotes and maintains independent living for older adults over the age of 60.

WDACS and its community partners deliver quality services to youth, adults and seniors that promote independence, dignity, choice, and social well-being.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD)

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD)

  • Provides information on most civil processes, such as restraining orders or evictions
  • Mental Evaluation Team to assist patrol deputies with situations involving the mentally ill, suicide attempts, or gravely disabled persons.
  • Community Outreach

LASD provides general law enforcement services to 42 contract cities, 141 unincorporated communities, 216 facilities, hospitals, and clinics located throughout the County, nine (9) community colleges, the Metropolitan Transit Authority and 37 Superior Courts.

Department of Health Services

Department of Health Services

  • Adult / Family: Medicine primary care for adults.
  • Geriatric Medicine: primary care for older adults.
  • Pediatric Services

Provides inpatient acute care services in four hospitals, and outpatient services at two outpatient centers (OC), six comprehensive health centers (CHC), 11 health centers, and over 100 Community Partners’ clinics. Provides no cost and low cost health care services.
